It’s funny how our sensibilities about  what is and isn’t good art can change of time. When I first saw Mignola’s art I could not believe this guy was getting paid money to draw comics. I thought his art was absolute shit. I was 12 year years old at the time though, so I try to cut myself a little slack.

It was around the time that he was doing the DC Elseworld Annual covers that I began to turn around on his art. His Batman is so stark, and plays well to his style.

Now I can look back at this stuff and really appreciate the man’s craft. His sense of light, the hard black lines he uses. His art is a blunt, powerful instrument.
